Extending the operating life of a legacy Affinity chiller

Age alone does not decide whether a critical chiller should be replaced. For an ageing Affinity unit, Polytroniks used a condition-led retrofit pathway to address service risk and extend useful operating life while the customer retained the installed platform.

Assess before replacing

The decision considered condition, failure history, parts risk, process dependency and the practical lead time for a replacement system. This created a clearer basis for repair, retrofit or replacement.

The retrofit focused on condition-led replacement and improvement of obsolete or high-risk items within the agreed service scope. Exact customer configuration and service records remain confidential.

Validate the return to service

A lifecycle retrofit is only complete when the repaired system is checked under an agreed operating condition, observations are documented and remaining risks are communicated for future maintenance planning.

Can every old chiller be retrofitted?+

No. Structural condition, refrigeration circuit integrity, parts, safety, controls and future duty determine whether retrofit remains sensible.

How is retrofit different from repair?+

Repair restores a faulted function. Retrofit deliberately updates obsolete, high-risk or unsuitable elements to improve the future support path.
